RUMOR: Google To Drop Nexus In Favor Of Play Edition OEMs?

,

First thing to get out of the way is this. Take this with a huge grain of salt. Google is being rumored to drop the Nexus line in favor of the Google Play Edition OEMs. This rumor was generated on Twitter via Eldar Murtazin. Some swear his validity as a good source, we of course will only take this with a grain of salt and wait for Google to confirm such a rumor.

That aside, what if this does happen? What if the Nexus line is being killed and GPEs take over in their place? What does this mean for MOTO? Could Google be phasing out Nexus and phasing in MOTO as another GPE handset? Could Google essentially be farming out the Nexus experience to OEMs and concentrating on MOTO and focusing selling MOTO in emerging markets?

So many questions surround such a rumor. The only thing we can do is sit tight and wait to see what Google has in store. Of course if Google releases a new Nexus 10 in the coming months, that just might put this rumor to rest. Stay tuned! We’ll try and bring you the latest as we see it.
