Amazon Echo Aims Its Sights On Siri, Google Now And Cortana

|

Amazon Echo is aiming to make you put down Siri, Google Now and Cortana inside your home in favor of its wake up word, Alexa. Amazon is offering a new personal assistant in the form of a bluetooth speaker by invite only. The cost for the Amazon Echo is a cool $199 but Prime members can request an invite and get it for $99. From the looks of Amazon Echo it’s designed to work exactly as Siri, Google Now and Cortana work but for your home. Google Now and Cortana are arguably the two better forms of personal assistants out there, Siri generally brings up the rear in this category.

Amazon Echo is designed around your voice. It’s always on—just ask for information, music, news, weather, and more. Echo begins working as soon as it hears you say the wake word, “Alexa.” It’s also an expertly-tuned speaker that can fill any room with immersive sound. Tucked under Echo’s light ring is an array of seven microphones. These sensors use beam-forming technology to hear you from any direction. With enhanced noise cancellation, Echo can hear you ask a question even while it’s playing music.

The Amazon Echo looks pretty cool and seems to work well enough to compete with smart phone personal assistants but Amazon’s track record lately hasn’t been all that stellar. The Amazon Echo can only be had with an invite right now with no word as to when it will be available to all, I’m guessing you’ll see this available just in time for Christmas shopping season.
