There’s no doubt when people think of pick-up trucks one of the first names on their brain is Ford. Ford has been making trucks for a very long time and is arguably one of the best at making them. Now Ford is pushing the boundaries with the construction of the all new 2015 Ford F-150. Ford is opting to make their new flagship truck with an all aluminium body, a first for such a mass produced vehicle of any kind.

Ford trucks have been the best selling trucks on the market for years so making a change this drastic is a gamble for the company. But it’s refreshing to see forward thinking and big changes by a big company to one of its largest money makers. The decision to go all aluminium was made back in 2012 so its taken some time to get things as they want them for mass production.
Were we recognizing that it was a risk? Sure,” Fields says. “But it was a very calculated and informed risk that gave us the confidence that we were going to get this done.
Maybe the future of all Ford vehicles is aluminium? The 2015 Ford F-150 is kind of a testing ground for that proposal though. It will be interesting to see how this all aluminium body holds up to regular use by real people and even more interesting to see how fuel efficiency calculates in.
