Google has released it’s annual global searches list for 2014. Robin Williams was searched globally more times than World Cup and Ebola to take the top 2014 Google Search term. Malaysia Airlines and the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge rounded out the top 5 for all searches. Flappy Bird, a mobile app, beat out bigger console games such as Destiny. And if there was any doubt, Frozen made the top ten list as well, beating out all other movies for the year.
The top consumer electronic device people searched for was Apple’s latest iPhone 6, with Samsung’s Galaxy S5 coming in second followed by Google’s flagship Nexus 6 device. The Xbox One was the top console searched for, Sony’s Playstation 4 (which is leading the latest generation of consoles in sales) and Nintendo’s Wii U didn’t even make the top 10 list. With quite a few wearable smartwatches released this year, the top wearable device searched for was Apple’s unreleased Apple Watch.
Ebola and ISIS searches led the Global News chart, with recent events in Ferguson garnering enough searches to round out the top 5. Jennifer Lawrence took the top People search spot over Kim Kardashian, no doubt Lawrence’s leaked selfies had something to do with that. For the sports minded, Colombian footballer James Rodríguez beat out Michael Schumacher – who suffered a coma after a skiing accident, and Ray Rice who was battered with accusations of domestic abuse.
The top search for the United States and Canada was also Robin Williams, while India searched most for Elections 2014 and World Cup topped Australian searches. No top search list was given for the UK.
