UPDATED: Twitch Passwords Compromised; All Passwords Reset

|

The next time you log in to Twitch, you’ll be redirected and prompted to change your password after the company revealed that some Twitch passwords have been compromised.

UPDATE (3/23/2015 19:30ET): Twitch has sent out an email notification to some users (myself included) which states:

We are writing to let you know that there may have been unauthorized access to some of your Twitch user account information, including possibly your Twitch username and associated email address, your password (which was cryptographically protected), the last IP address you logged in from, and any of the following if you provided it to us: first and last name, phone number, address, and date of birth.

The rest of the email is pretty much the same as the original blog post below. The wording of the email definitely indicates some sort of breach happened with their database, exposing user information.

ORIGINAL STORY

In a blog post, Twitch wrote:

For your protection, we have expired passwords and stream keys and have disconnected accounts from Twitter and YouTube. As a result, you will be prompted to create a new password the next time you attempt to log into your Twitch account.

We also recommend that you change your password at any website where you use the same or a similar password. We will communicate directly with affected users with additional details.

Sincerely,
Twitch Staff

The process is fairly simple, simply login and you will be redirected to a page with the steps you’ll need to take to reset your password – namely by sending an email to your registered email account with a link to reset your password. If you have used the same password at another site, you’ll probably want to change that as well. As Twitch mentions, you’ll also have to create new stream keys and reconnect your Twitch account to Twitter and YouTube.

Twitch hasn’t provided any further details at this time, but we’ll be sure to update if any new information comes our way.
