OnePlus has been teasing a big announcement on April 20th for a few days now. Rumors have been swirling that we might see the follow-up to last year’s OnePlus One, creatively named OnePlus Two. Other speculation pegged the announcement as a smartwatch, or some other major accessory. Well, April 20th is here, and are you prepared for what OnePlus has in store?
Today we are bidding farewell to one of the most talked-about aspects of OnePlus: using invites to buy the OnePlus One.
From here on out, the One AND Bamboo StyleSwap Covers will be available on OnePlus.net without invites. All day, every day.
Hooray? The invite system was definitely one of the most talked-about aspects of the OnePlus One, though what they fail to mention is that it wasn’t really a very positive talking point. They talked a big game before the phone was even available, then they weren’t able to fulfill their orders based on the hype they’d created. They used the invite system, which quickly turned into a joke as OnePlus continually shot themselves in the foot. People couldn’t get invites, the contests on their forum were… questionable, and there were plenty of other foot-in-mouth moments for the start-up phone company.
The OnePlus One itself is a relatively good device, but the caveat to that was that you had to figure out how to get one first. Thankfully that won’t be an issue anymore, but is it too little too late? The One will be a year old in a few short days. Will this still be a desirable device in the presence of other, newer phones?
Well, at least they’ll get everything sorted out and be able to launch the OnePlus Two without an invite system, right?
With the experiences we’ve gained with the One, we will be far more prepared to make the same transition with the OnePlus 2. Yes, the 2 will initially launch with invites.
