Best Buy Cozies Up With Apple Pay Leaving CurrentC

The mobile payment system wars are upon us and the major players are making their moves. Best Buy has done an about face and is leaving payment system CurrentC in favor of Apple Pay. Getting Best Buy on board to their payment system is a significant notch on Apple’s belt and could encourage other big box retailers to jump on the ship. Best Buy has begun taking Apple Pay online and will begin to roll out the program to stores later in the year as they update their POS terminals to work with Apple Pay.

CurrentC is preparing to launch later in the year as well but with Best Buy leaving and Target Stores said to be having second thoughts, it’s uncertain where CurrentC will end up in the grand scheme of things. Google Wallet is already being accepted widely in stores such as Walgreens, CVS and McDonalds and we could very well see Apple and Google battling in the mobile payment space as they battle in the mobile smartphone space.

There is no doubt that wireless and mobile payment systems are going to be the future. The only remaining question is, who will be left standing? My money is on Google and Apple. For the sake of competition I don’t think there will be one sole survivor at the very least it will be those two. What do you think?
