IK Multimedia Introduces iRig UA, A Universal Guitar Effects Processor For Android

It’s been over a year since we reviewed the iRig HD and AmpliTube for iOS devices, and IK Multimedia has finally released a universal guitar effects processor for Android – the iRig UA and AmpliTube UA app.

So what exactly is the iRig UA? It’s a digital effects processor that allows you to connect your guitar or bass to any Android device and offers high-quality sound and near-zero latency processing. Because it’s small and can connect to your Android smartphone, you can take it just about anywhere. When used with IK Multimedia’s AmpliTube UA app, musicians can experience high-quality real time effects through their Android devices.

The iRig UA features:

  • Works on any smartphone or tablet that supports Android 4.2 or higher and host mode/USB OTG
  • Near-zero latency digital FX processing
  • Digital audio recording on Android 5.0 and Samsung Professional Audio Devices
  • 32-bit digital signal processor
  • 24-bit converter with 44.1/48KHz sample rate
  • High-definition, low-noise preamp
  • Includes AmpliTube UA
  • Analog aux input for play-along and practice
  • Headphone output and volume control
  • Multicolor LED
  • Ultra-compact and lightweight design
  • Micro-USB port

Latency for musicians is a huge issue and iRig UA has solved that by taking the processing away from the Android device it’s connected to and boasts down to 2ms round-trip total latency.

iRig UA features a first-of-its-kind built-in digital signal processor (DSP) that solves the issue of inconsistent OS latency on the Android platform. It’s able to do this by moving all processing to an external accessory. iRig UA’s DSP has been designed to work with a companion app, AmpliTube UA. The app, which comes with iRig UA, is powered by the DSP. Like other versions of AmpliTube, it provides you with an amazing collection of virtual gear that you can use to create your own personal dream guitar or bass rig.

Users of a Samsung Professional Audio device running Android 5.0 or Samsung Soundcamp can also use the iRig UA to record your music. The device features a 1/4″ input for a guitar, bass, or other line-level instrument, a micro-USB to OTG cable, a 1/8″ headphone jack with volume control, and a 1/8″ input so you can connect an external sound source to play along to your favourite songs.

The AmpliTube UA app is a full-featured mobile guitar and bass tone studio and features 21 pieces of “gear” including 9 high-quality stomp box effects, 5 amplifiers, 5 matching cabinets, and 2 microphones. You can also purchase even more gear in-app including bundles from Fender, Orange, Ampeg, Soldano, and others or pick up the exclusive AmpliTube Slash or AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix collections.
