Android M’s Hidden File Manager

|
,

File managers have always been popular amongst Android users but has never been implemented by Google as stock software, until now. On Android M there is a roundabout way of getting to a file manager with very minimal functionality when compared to the others that you can get from the Play Store.

If you are running Android M you can check it out for yourself by going to Settings > Storage > Internal Storage > Other files.  The file manager is quite simple once you get there.  It will let you browse the folders from your internal storage, open them up and see the contents, but your options on interacting with them, aside from opening the file, is only to share, delete, or copy to somewhere else.

You won’t get the functionality here that you will from Root Explorer, Material Manager, ES File Explorer, ASTRO or the like, but it is nice to see that Android is finally starting to add this as stock into the operating system.  I hope to see them expand on it more in the future and add some more features but this is a good place to start for a simple file manager.
