Well we’re all very aware of the dangers of texting and driving and most of us, I hope, are not doing that. So what about the dangers of texting and walking? One Chinese girl from Mianyang City in southwest China found out exactly what can happen when you’re not paying attention to where you’re walking. Texting and walking, not watching where she was going the young lady stepped right on a slated storm drain and fell right in, leaving her leg stuck between the bars. Other pedestrians rushed to her aid but none could free her from the pickle she was in, her leg was locked in. Emergency services had to be called and it took them 45 minutes to free the girls leg.
“We managed to remove the bars and quickly freed her once we arrived at the scene,” Fire brigade spokesman Ming Lai said.
“Her leg was a bit scratched and bruised and numb from being squeezed through the bars, but she quickly recovered and did not need hospital treatment.”
“She was incredibly thin though, I reckon normally nobody would be able to get their foot down there but the bars were a bit bent so I guess that was why it happened.”
While this was a minor accident and the girl wasn’t too badly injured, texting and walking can be a hazard for everyone. You are more likely to not watch what you’re doing or where you’re going and there’s far worse things than getting stuck in a storm drain that might happen.
