Elon Musk is calling his new $10,000 add on package to his Tesla Model S the “Ludicrous” package. Yes that is a nod to the classic Mel Brookes movie “Spaceballs” where Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) orders his crew to take the ship to ludicrous speed. If you’re not familiar with that reference, check out the video clip at the end of this article. The same option will be available to P85D owners for only $5000. The Tesla Model S already is fast but why not make it even faster, with its instant torque it has beaten Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s off the line.
Other new options include a upgraded 90 kilowatt-hour battery pack that claims a range of 300 miles at a cruising speed of 65mph, that will set you back another $3000. But the good news is, the 70 kilowatt-hour battery pack version has had a price reduction of $5000, not that I can afford it now. Tesla’s other announcements were that the Model X will be coming in just about 2 months, that is the gull wing SUV they’ve been working on. And the affordable $35,000 Model 3 is expected to be hitting the road in two years. Tesla also mentioned a possible upgrade to their original Tesla Roadster.
