Josh Greenberg, the co-founder of Grooveshark, was found dead in his home at the age of 28. Greenberg’s girlfriend found him in his bed with no evidence of foul play. Greenberg’s mother spoke to reporters telling them that the police investigation showed no evidence of drugs or injuries either. His mother also said that he had never been sick a day in his life and his girlfriend said Greenberg had never had any sort of prescriptions either. The medical examiner’s report is mysterious as well stating they could find no explanation for the cause of death, toxicology reports are due in 2-3 months.

Greenberg’s girlfriend had been away for the weekend and was not home at the time of his death. When she returned she found him in bed where she thought he was sleeping. His mother also said that Greenberg was not depressed about the settlement that shut down Grooveshark but he was more relieved that it was over. She also said he was excited for new opportunities since the settlement was over.

Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Gainesville Technology Council, board Chairman John Carlson and interim president and CEO Susan Davenport issued a statement expressing the organization’s sorrow.

“A true technology pioneer and visionary, Josh was co-founder of Grooveshark.com, which brought unprecedented tech opportunities to our region,” the statement read. “His contributions, which helped to lay our region’s innovative technology foundation, will not be forgotten.”
