ZNAPS is a magnetic adapter for mobile devices that is a $9 charger being backed on Kickstarter. ZNAPS is trying to deviate from “frayed charging cables, tripping over cable resulting in smashed phones, pointless fiddling to plug cable in the dark, water damage through charging outlet and more!”
I don’t think I need to go into much detail on how it this works as it’s super easy, but all that’s done is you plug the connector into your phone, add the adapter to the connector, and then let the phone charge. Easy as that. You can check out their Kickstarter video below for step by step instructions.
ZNAPS does come with some pretty cool features that will be useful for those who will be using it. I would consider this a feature while others may not, but ZNAPS is for iPhone and Android users so there’s no one sided issue for the cable.
Another really neat feature is that it’s reversible, so there’s no way you can screw up trying to get some juice into your phone. Water getting into the charging port will no longer be an issue as there will be no way for it to seep through. There is a small LED light that indicates the charging status of the phone, which will be helpful for those who aren’t always looking at their device while it’s charging. It’ll also act as a data transfer device and has a minimal footprint and design. Last but not least, you’re able to connect and detach the phone without any chance to damage the charging port. Some other neat features, that aren’t actually features is ZNAPS is compatible with Quick Charging. Yes!! It also supports Micro USB 3.0.
There are nine different pledges to choose from that will allow you to receive the connector and adapter. For example, $9 USD will get you 1x connector and 1x adapter. $15 USD will get you 1x connector and 2x adapters. $18 comes with 2x connectors and 2x adapters, $21 USD comes with 1x connector, 2x adapters, and 1x key chain that will hold the connector and adapter. $24 has 2x connectors, 2x adapters, and 1x key chain.
Shipping starts November 2015 while the Kickstarter Campaign is going on right now. They’ve already crushed their funding goal as of the time of this writing and you still have over three weeks left if you want to back this project. ZNAPS has also just announced a new stretch goal where they hope to be able to provide an option for USB Type C ZNAPS.
But that’s not all. There’s also another possible reward we could release… YES, that’s right; it’s the USB-C ZNAPS. We originally wanted to include USB-C for ZNAPS, but we didn’t have the initial funds to do so. With this campaign going so well, we could bump that schedule up and try to deliver it to you during this campaign.
Before you get your hopes up though, the USB Type C stretch goal only opens up if they hit $2 million in funding. Given their current trajectory it’s entirely possible they’ll hit that number though.
In my opinion, this looks like a pretty cool idea for a new way of charging devices and I do plan on backing this project.
