Samsung Sending Out Invites For Unpacked Event On August 13

Samsung is holding an Unpacked event on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 11 .m. Eastern Time in New York, possibly to unveil the Galaxy Note 5. Rumors have indicated that they are planning to release the next Note phone earlier than usual this year and this seems to be true.

Samsung could also be launching the rumoured Galaxy S6 Edge+, basically a bigger version of the the Galaxy S6 Edge. The invite image shows what seems to be the silhouette of a curved phone under sheets. This indicates that we will definitely see a curved phone, possibly the Galaxy S6 Edge+. It could, however, be a curved Note, the successor to last year’s Galaxy Note Edge.

Samsung might also choose to roll out Samsung Pay, which has been on trial in South Korea, globally, or at least in North America. Previous reports indicated that Samsung might choose to pair the Pay release with the launch of the next Note device.

Traditionally, Samsung unveiled its Note phones in September and then put them up for sale a few weeks later. Apple also generally releases its new iPhones in September and this change of date on Samsung’s part could indicate Samsung’s desire to release ahead of Apple, especially as Note sales lagged behind that of the iPhones even in South Korea, Samsung’s home turf.

The Unpacked event will be live streamed on YouTube by the Samsung Mobile channel.
