Tesla Charger Prototype Is Awesome, Creepy

Ah Tesla Motors, the company who manufacturers one of my favorites cars the Tesla Model S, has shown off a video of their new Tesla charger prototype on its Twitter account back on Thursday August 6th. The prototype looks like a aluminum (maybe?) snake coil that automatically plugs into the Model S.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, unveiled this plan back in December that he was working on a new car charger. This new piece of technology has zero interaction with the driver when it comes to plugging in the charger, so it’s actually pretty neat that the charger goes directly to the charging port on its own. Musk Tweeted “It automatically moves out from the wall and connects like a solid metal snake. For realz,”.

Unfortunately, there hasn’t been a release date announced or pricing for the “snake like” charger, but with it still being a prototype, we can understand that it may be some time before the mass production starts.

From the clip, you can see that it moves slowly and had to adjust itself to make sure it’s lined up with the port. Once again, with being a prototype it may not be slow moving with the final product. Same with the design too. Making it a little smaller and less creepy would be nice. Thanks Tesla. Much appreciated.

If you’re a proud owner of a Tesla Model S (super jealous), would you be interested in buying this charger if it was for the right price? Or maybe seeing this new plug roll out at SuperCharger stations around the country? Leave your comment down below, or on Google +, Facebook, or Twitter.
