Google Play Games Recording And Sharing Launches

Google’s YouTube recently introduced YouTube Gaming with mobile capture, so it’d be a bit of a surprise to see Google bring Google Play Games recording to Android devices as well — but that’s exactly what just happened.

The company has announced on the Android Official Blog that starting today, it’s launching a new feature on the Google Play Games app that lets you record your gameplay and then upload it to YouTube. There are a few differences between Google Play Games recording and YouTube Gaming’s mobile capture feature, the biggest being that you can only record your gameplay with Google Play Games and upload it later. YouTube Gaming gives you an option to record or stream your mobile gameplay. Both services let you record in 720P or 480P.

Once the new functionality goes live on your device, simply open up the Play Games app, select the game you want to play, then hit that red record button to start recording. You can also add video and commentary through your front facing camera and microphone. Once you’re done, you can edit and upload your video to YouTube.

As with all Google products, this will rollout in select countries — namely the US and UK — first, and will be available in more countries “soon after.”

What do you think about Google adding Google Play Games recording functionality? Is it something you’d use? Let us know in the comments below, or on Google+, Twitter, or Facebook.
