With the increasing availability of larger smartphones — phablets — and tablets, smaller 7″ and 8″ tablets are less popular. Smaller tablets however, are considerably cheaper and more kid friendly and Acer has announced an 8″ Android tablet aimed at families with a simplified user interface, pre-screened content appropriate for children, and parental controls.
Featuring an 8″ HD IPS display with bright and vivid images with wide-viewing angles, the Iconia One 8 will ship with Android 5.1, feature nine hours of battery life, a MediaTek quad-core processor, 5MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot with support for up to 128GB microSD cards.
The Iconia One 8 also comes preloaded with Kids Center, an app which features a simplified child-friendly user interface and pre-screened content. Parental Control features allow parents to block access to specific content, pre-select appropriate content, and even set daily time limits for tablet usage.
The Iconia One 8 (B1-850) features smart tools developed by Acer that simplify everyday tasks:
- EZ WakeUp – With just one-touch and a double tap, the tablet awakens3 and loads a pre-selected app of choice.
- EZ Snap – Makes it easy to take a screenshot with a simple three-finger pinch. Images can be easily edited and shared.
- System Doctor – Manages the device’s memory, storage, and apps to optimize system functionality
The Acer Iconia One 8 will be available in EMEA this month starting at €129, and in North America starting in February with prices beginning at $99.99USD.
