One of my biggest gripes with the new 12″ MacBook is the fact we’ve lost the MagSafe connection that was oh so useful. MagSafe was great because if you, or say one of my five kids, tripped over the cable it would detach from the laptop without creating havoc. Unfortunately the new MacBook uses USB-C and if you trip over that cord, your new Mac is going with it. Griffin is introducing their solution to the problem with their BreakSafe Magnetic USB-C power cable.
Apples MagSafe connector has saved millions of laptops from damage caused by tripping over ones power cord. But with the introduction of USB-C on new MacBooks, this safety feature is absent. Enter Griffins BreakSafe Magnetic USB-C Power Cable ($39.99), which brings back a magnetic breakaway power cable to USB-C compatible laptops, keeping them safe from drops and damage. The patented quick-release magnetic connector plugs into a laptops USB-C port and safely disconnects from the rest of the cable when put under stress or strain from incidents like tripping over the power cord. The streamlined magnetic connector is only 12.8 mm deep so it can stay plugged into a laptops USB-C port when not in use. BreakSafes included 6 cable easily connects with the USB-C charger that comes with laptops. BreakSafe Magnetic USB-C Power Cable will be available in April 2016 at griffintechnology.com/us/breaksafe-magnetic-usb-type-c-cable.
This is one little gadget that is surely going to save some MacBooks out there, looking forward to seeing this at CES 2016. Hopefully Griffin makes some added accessories that will expand the BreakSafe to be used with other accessories.
EDIT: This will work with any device with USB-C not just the MacBook.
