Meet The Xwatch, $100 And Possibly Running Full Android

Wearables (particularly smartwatches) haven’t truly hit the mainstream like manufactures would have liked, I attribute it to high price points. So maybe the Bluboo Xwatch can break that mold and deliver a smartwatch that is both beautifully crafted and affordable. The Xwatch is a looker, at least from the photos we’ve seen, and it seems to be packing some decent specs. With 512MB of RAM, Mediatek chip, 4GB of internal memory, 360 x 360 resolution, 1.3″ screen, 9.8mm thickness, and a 480mAh battery it’s not some throwaway device.

The real interesting thing is that GizChina claims the XWatch is running full Android but there are other reports it is running Android Wear. Running full Android would be fun but honestly, Google created Android Wear for a reason — to run on smartwatches. Either way, the main take away here is that a $100 smartwatch is possible and perhaps the Xwatch will start driving prices from Samsung, LG, Sony, and others down with such a competitive price.

The design and build quality look to be good from the photos provided by GizChina but again, we won’t know for certain until we actually touch and use one. We’ll also not know how the device and its Mediatek chip will perform running full Android, if that is indeed the operating system it is running. There are lots of questions surrounding the device but what we hope comes out of this is that push towards lower wearable prices.
