Audiences haven’t even been to the theater to catch Deadpool, the long awaited superhero movie starring Ryan Reynolds and 20th Century Fox is already preparing a sequel. The “merc with the mouth” has become a marketing darling with an important PSA on checking your balls to Twitter battles with Hugh Jackman. Honestly, the key player in the success of the character has been Ryan Reynolds himself. He’s embraced the character and embraced the fans with so much gusto and genuine love that he’ll forever be known as Deadpool no matter what happens to any future movies. Not only that, Reynolds was key in getting 20th Century Fox to make the film and make it right.
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote Deadpool, are writing the script for a follow-up, which has already been greenlighted, insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter.
Little else is known but who the hell cares, so long as Reynolds is returning as Deadpool and the studio keeps the character as he should be I think the fans will be just fine with that. Deadpool opens this weekend and is being projected to make between $65-$70 million dollars its opening weekend. Several of the staff will be catching the movie this weekend so you can likely expect a review at some point soon afterwards, hopefully with minimal spoilers. The movie theater better be serving chimichangas!
