Moshi USB-C accessories are finally here. Moshi is one of the best accessory makers out on the market today and they make some of the best quality gear you can find anywhere. In this review we’re going to give our quick thoughts on Moshi’s USB-C to HDMI adapter, USB-C to VGA adapter, USB-C to USB-A adapter, USB-C to USB-C cable and USB-C to USB-A cable.
USB-C is a new standard in USB cabling that is the most efficient USB format to carry data and power. With this new standard there is bound to be a learning curve and Moshi understands that. The company took its time in releasing these cables because they wanted to get it right, unlike hundreds of off brand companies hocking cables on Amazon. The company knew the new standard would take special care and they’ve provided us with a statement on how they conduct their USB-C testing.
Moshi is an Apple-authorized MFi developer, Intel Thunderbolt licensee and USB-IF member, so all of our cables follow strict specifications.
On the testing/QC side of our USB-C Charge Cable, we make sure each cable follows the USB-C voltage drop spec. If a cable doesn’t follow this spec and the voltage drop is too great, then it won’t charge the connected device.
We also use USB-C connectors with power and ground contacts that are long enough to ensure the correct power sequence. Cheaper USB-C connectors use less material so the contacts are shorter. If the power sequence isn’t correct, the product won’t function properly.
That being said and clarified, we suggested Moshi reach out to Benson Leung who is currently the authority on USB-C and USB-C testing to see if he would take their new products for a spin, they were already in process of doing that. We reached out ourselves to Benson in hopes he would review these Moshi cables for Techaeris but we never heard back. We are hoping Moshi has better luck because these cables are certainly well made and high quality.
Moshi USB-C Accessories Review
The Moshi USB-C accessories sent to us are all made of high quality materials and feel much more substantial than the Amazon off brand cables you’ll find for $5. Of note the USB-C to USB-C charging cable has the added feature of a charging indicator that shows if your device is still charging or fully charged.
All of the cables sent to us worked as advertised and we had zero issues with them. We do not have access to testing equipment or software that Mr. Leung would have access to in order to give full technical details and benchmarks.
Prices for the Moshi USB-C accessories range from $24.95 – $44.95 and some may find the price a bit higher than they would like. Moshi takes pride in their quality control, and provide well built, well designed products that we’ve enjoyed using over the years.
Overall these accessories are some of the best USB-C cables I have used and worth the extra cost to have cables that are built to last through the abuse we put them through. Highly recommended are the USB-C to USB-C cable and the USB-C to USB-A cable.
