FLCL fans rejoicenew seasons are coming your way!

The beloved anime FLCL (known also as “Fooly Cooly”) has been picked up by Adult Swim for two new sequel seasons, each with six episodes. The new seasons, which are currently set to release in late 2017 or early 2018, will take place a number of years after the events of the original series, which ran on Adult Swim from 2001 – 2003. While the seasons will feature characters from the original series such as Haruko, they will also introduce a new main character: a bored teenage girl by the name of Hidomi, whose encounter with Haruko changes her life.

Series creator Kazuya Tsurumaki will be returning as series supervisor, and will be joined by director Katsuyuki Motohiro (who is known for the acclaimed series Psycho Pass) and writer Hideto Iwai (Last Dinner). The series will be created by animation studio Production I.G., who have animated hits and classics like Ghost In the Shell, Attack on Titan, and previously mentioned Psycho Pass.

“The original FLCL is an anime classic and has been a fixture on Adult Swim since we first laid eyes on it,” said Jason DeMarco, senior vice president/creative director, Adult Swim On-Air. “I’m beyond thrilled to be able to produce a sequel with the original creators, for Toonami, where it belongs.”
