Beth Behrs, the star of the CBS TV series 2 Broke Girls, is taking a stab at the world of comics with the debut of the post-apocalyptic comic series Dents. Described as Frozen meets The Hunger Games, the first three chapters are available exclusively on leading digital comics platform LINE Webtoon.

Dents was co-created and co-written along with Beth Behrs’ long time best friend actor/musician Matt Doyle (best known for Book of Mormon and Gossip Girl) and is a post-apocalyptic journey to the year 2111, where more than half of the world population has been wiped out by an ancient deadly plague released by the melting polar ice caps due to global warming. A vaccine is eventually created, but a side-effect is a huge rise in the birth of twins, all of whom possess mysterious and dangerous powers and come to be known by the rest of society as Dents. The series is told through the voice of an unapologetic 14-year-old girl named Eleanor who, upon learning that she was secretly separated from her twin at birth, is swept into a mysterious underground society populated by other exiled Dents who have bonded together to survive.

LOS ANGELES, May 13, 2016 – LINE Webtoon, the popular digital comics publisher pioneering the development and distribution of comics worldwide, today announced that one of television’s leading ladies, Beth Behrs (Two Broke Girls), and actor/musician Matt Doyle (The Book of Mormon, Gossip Girl) have officially launched their highly anticipated YA comic series Dents.

Dents is an apocalyptic journey to the year 2111, where more than half of the world’s population has been wiped out by an ancient plague released by the melting polar ice caps due to global warming. Co-created and co-written by Behrs and Doyle, and illustrated by Dream Police and The Adventures of Apocalypse Al artist Sid Kotian, the series is told through the voice of an unapologetic 14-year-old girl named Eleanor. After a vaccination is developed, there is a massive increase in the birth of identical twins possessing extraordinary powers. What was first seen as a blessing to repopulate the Earth quickly turns to chaos as these powers manifest in mysterious – and often dangerous – ways. The twins, known in society as Dents, are ordered to be executed and aborted. Following an incident at school, Eleanor learns that she herself is a Dent, separated from her twin at birth, and she is quickly swept into an underground society made up of other Dents just trying to survive.

“In Dents, we explore sexuality, feminism, environmental issues and prejudice through the eyes of our 14-year old heroine, Eleanor.” said Behrs. “We set the story in a post-apocalyptic world due to global warming. Climate change activism is something that Matt and I are both very passionate about and it was important for us to incorporate sociopolitical elements into the comic.”

“We are in a time where hatred and prejudice has a very strong voice. The genocide against the Dents, and fear of them for being different, is unfortunately something that is very close to human nature. I hope that Dents will identify with those who feel different or shut out of society. I wanted to tell a story that is set in a sci-fi environment, with fantastical circumstances, rooted in very real issues.” said co-creator Matt Doyle.

“We are so excited that Dents has officially launched on LINE Webtoon. Beth and Matt’s dedication and passion for this project has been insurmountable and we are so thrilled with the final product,” said JunKoo Kim, Founder and Head of LINE Webtoon. “We know our readers are going to love how the dark and captivating tale of Dents unfolds and we’re looking forward to reading the audience’s reaction in the comments.”

Beth Behrs stars in CBS’ hit comedy series 2 Broke Girls which is currently in its 5th season and appears in the indie comedy film “Hello, My Name is Doris”. Behrs has also performed at the Geffen Playhouse and appeared on stage with the New York Philharmonic for their New Year’s Eve performance One Singular Sensation: Celebrating Marvin Hamlisch. On May 19, Behrs will begin performances in the lead role of off-Broadway show A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of New York City at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.

Matt Doyle is an American actor and singer-songwriter, best known for his work on Broadway in starring roles in The Book of Mormon, Spring Awakening, and War Horse. He also appeared in Gossip Girl on The CW. His debut pop album, Uncontrolled, written with Sony ATV/Publishing, was released February 29th.
