Michael Keaton Joins Spider-Man: Homecoming; Kingpin Coming As Well?

After rumours were confirmed that Robert Downey, Jr. would be reprising his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming reboot movie, the cast is getting another major addition — and a new rumour. After recently coming to an agreement with Sony over the rights to Spider-Man, Marvel has been quick to bring the web-slinging superhero — now played by Tom Holland — back into the fold with his MCU debut in the recently released Captain America: Civil War.

As far as confirmations go, Michael Keaton will be joining the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming as The Vulture. Considering this is yet another reboot, it makes sense as The Vulture was Spidey’s first really big nemesis, and not only that it could be a great role for Keaton down the road as The Vulture was also part of the Sinister Six in later storylines.

Now to the rumour:

“Marvel Studios is considering having Vincent D’Onofrio reprise his Wilson Fisk role from Daredevil in Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

Bringing D’Onofrio as Kingpin in the Spider-Man: Homecoming movie would be a pretty big deal as there hasn’t been very much crossover between the Marvel TV Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (the movies). Sure, the movie events are discussed in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from time to time, and there have been a few cameo appearances, but the MTU has largely been left out of the MCU — almost like it doesn’t exist.

As Kingpin was a pretty big adversary for Spider-Man in past comics, if these rumours pan out then it could be good news for Charlie Cox who plays Daredevil in Netflix’s Marvel’s Daredevil alongside D’Onofrio. Maybe we’ll eventually see a Daredevil/Spider-Man movie down the road where they team up against Kingpin…

D’Onofrio took to Twitter to debunk the rumours, but goes on to mention that he loves the talk about Kingpin being in a Spider-Man movie.
