Google backed Magic Leap and Disney backed Lucasfilm are partnering to innovate the future of entertainment and usher us into a new era. The two companies have started a lab where they intend to co-invent what entertainment will look like in the future. Of course we haven’t a clue what that actually is (the Tweet below gives us a hint) but we are sure excited to find out what these two companies have in store.

With entertainment technology developing rapidly, and things like visual effects and robotics becoming even slicker and more realistic, it’s going to be very cool to see what the future of movies and television looks like through the work of these two companies. Lucasfilm’s namesake, George Lucas, is the creator of both Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic, both of which have played pivotal roles in the movie industry over the years.

“Lucasfilm has created some of the most iconic characters of our time. Ones that dare us to dream, unlock our imagination and excite us to go on a journey with them,” Abovitz said in a press release. “Magic Leap is creating a whole new medium: Mixed Reality Lightfields, designed to harness the power of your imagination and take you to places you never thought possible. Collaboration between our two companies is a perfect fit, and I can’t wait to share the results with the world.”

While Google and Disney are just the parent companies in this deal, it’s nice to have mommy and daddy’s wallets at hand to mold and shape the future of storytelling.
