It’s getting close to the beginning of the month, that means we must be getting some new Netflix content! We’re getting into the middle of summer, and hot weather might keep some of us in front of the TV streaming. Keep reading to see what Netflix US has in store for the month of July — for those of you in Canada you can check out what’s in store for July on Netflix Canada.

Netflix Original Series and Specials

Netflix has been killing it with their original series lately, and July is no exception. Here you’ll get some returning shows, some new shows, movies, specials, you name it. Up first, returning for its second season, Marco Polo. Season 2 will be available on July 1st, so you still have a few days to get through Season 1 if you’re so inclined.

Up next you can catch Australian comic Jim Jefferies with his stand up special Freedumb. The special hits a wide variety of topics, and you can get an idea of what you might be in for with the (NSFW – language) trailer below.

If you’re interested in the crime-drama genre, Netflix will begin streaming season one of Marcella starting on July 1st. Netflix acquired the global streaming rights for the drama, penned by The Bridge writer Hans Rosenfeldt and starring Anna Friel. The story follows Friel, a former detective and mother of two as she is thrust back into the world of law enforcement.

Midway through the month — on the 15th — you can stream season one of Stranger Things. Starring Winona Ryder, the series follows life in 1983 Indiana, where a boy’s disappearance leads to mysterious discoveries with the government and supernatural forces.

On July 22nd, you can catch Season 3 of the Netflix Original BoJack Horseman. We’ll just use the recap from our Netflix Canada update here too: BoJack is certain he’s on the comeback trail as he promotes his starring turn in the film biography of Secretariat, the legendary racehorse. Despite the Oscar buzz surrounding the movie, BoJack worries about his artistic legacy.

Netflix Original Films and Documentaries

Brahman Naman follows a quick-witted quiz champ around 1980’s Bangalore as he and his friends travel to Calcutta in an attempt to win a college prize. This group of hopelessly nerdy friends have other things on their mind, however. Brahman Naman will be available to stream on July 7th.

On July 15th  you can stream the Netflix Original Rebirth. The film follows Kyle, a white-collar suburban dad who is surprised by Zack, an old college roommate who is going on and on about Rebirth, the self-actualization program he’s just finished. Zack convinces Kyle to check it out, leading to psychodrama, seduction, and violence.

Also on the 15th, the Netflix Exclusive documentary, Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru comes to the service. Guru was filmed at Robbins’ 2014 “Date with Destiny” seminar in Boca Raton, Florida.

Rounding out the month for Original movies and documentaries are Tallulah and Last Chance U. Tallulah follows the exploits of a young drifter who kidnaps a baby from a neglectful mother. Last Chance U follows a Community College football team trying to hold it together as their elite athletes find themselves in tough life circumstances. Both will be available to stream on July 29th.

Netflix Original Anime

Netflix has obviously seen the popularity of anime on its service and has recently started rolling out some anime series of their own.

On July 4th you can catch the streaming debut of Kuromukuro. In the series, a mysterious relic is discovered at the construction site of a new dam. Scholars from all over the world gather to study and research the artifact, and their children attend the nearby Tateyama International High School.

On July 14th you can stream Season 1 of Magi: The Adventures of Sinbad. Netflix picked up the streaming rights for this prequel to Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic. The show follows the story of Sinbad as a child before he establishes his own kingdom.

Netflix Original Series For Kids

With kids home from school for the summer, there may be days where they need something to keep them entertained. Netflix has a couple of original programs coming in July that could fit the bill.

Word Party debuts on July 8th, and is a vocabulary building show from the Jim Henson company. The show follows four baby animals as they sing, dance, and play. The viewers are able to help the animals learn new words, all while practicing those words themselves and celebrate their achievements with a party… a Word Party. Word Party is produced using the groundbreaking Henson Digital Puppetry Studio, a proprietary technology from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop that allows puppeteers to perform digitally animated characters in real time — enabling the animation to be more lifelike and spontaneous.

Word-Party

There are a few kid’s shows returning with new seasons as well. The Adventures of Puss in Boots Season 3 will stream on July 15th, while LEGO Bionicle: The Journey to One Season 2 starts streaming on July 29th.
