While it was announced at E3, Xbox One background music is finally coming to the console on August 2nd with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. The background music feature will allow gamers to play their music while playing games at the same time. The much requested feature will launch on the console alongside Language Region Independence which allows gamers to choose any supported language for their Xbox One regardless of their location, and the new Cortana integration with the console.

UPDATE (07/07/2016 10:30am ET): It seems Microsoft has subtly edited the support for Xbox Play Anywhere titles. Instead of indicating every new title published from Microsoft Studios will support Xbox Play Anywhere, the blog post has been amended to “every new title published from Microsoft Studios that we showed onstage at E3 this year will support Xbox Play Anywhere.” Thanks to the eagle eye of Angus Morrison over at PC Gamer for the catch.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Xbox-Play-Anywhere-logoIn addition, Xbox Play Anywhere will launch on September 13 with the launch of ReCore. Also introduced at E3, Xbox Play Anywhere allows gamers to purchase games with the Xbox Play Anywhere logo once and play them on both Windows 10 and Xbox One consoles. Of course, game add-ons, season passes, consumables, and in-game unlocks will also be included for Xbox Play Anywhere titles. Not only can you play the game on either system, but the game progress, saves, and achievements will be shared across both platforms allowing you to easily pick up where you left off.

“The Windows 10 Anniversary Update and the related Xbox update coming this summer enable the Windows Store on Windows 10 and Xbox One to support Xbox Play Anywhere games,” a Microsoft spokesperson told Polygon. “Then, beginning with the launch of ReCore this fall and continuing with Forza Horizon 3, Gears of War 4, Halo Wars 2 and others, when you digitally purchase a game that supports Xbox Play Anywhere, you have access to the game on both Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs for one price and your progress, game saves and achievements are shared seamlessly across both platforms.”

Microsoft indicated in a blog post as well that every new title published from Microsoft Studios will support Xbox Play Anywhere and will be easily accessible in the Windows Store. The current list of upcoming Xbox Play Anywhere titles includes:

  • Gears of War 4
  • Forza Horizon 3
  • ReCore
  • Sea of Thieves
  • Halo Wars 2
  • Scalebound
  • Killer Instinct Season 3
  • State of Decay 2
  • Ark: Survival Evolved
  • Cuphead
  • We Happy Few
  • Crackdown 3
