Is Apple killing the mute switch on the next iPhone?

Come on Apple! First we’re nearly confirming no headphone jack, now we might be seeing the death of the iconic mute switch? Leaked photos from reliable French site NowhereElse seem to indicate the mute switch is gone. If you look at the volume rocker in the photo you’ll see the iconic switch is missing which Apple also killed on the iPad. You can still toggle mute in Control Center but many people have come to love the mute switch, myself included.

The photos also reveal that Smart Connector again, which has been an on and off rumor but still not confirmed. Going even further is the appearance of the home button, it looks slightly raised not recessed like the current iPhone lineup, which seems like it would collect more dirt and dust than the current home button does. You also see the dual camera on the back and the LED flash and what looks like laser focusing. Of course this is all speculation, it could be the noise cancelling microphone as well.

Back to the home button. It’s very possible that the home button houses Force Touch and doesn’t actually physically press down. Though what appears to be a gap between the body and button suggests it moves. Also very possible the home button could act like a touch pad and accept gestures for certain things. At any rate, all speculative at this point and the leaks will keep coming. We can only piece them together the best we can and try and build what we think is actually going to happen.
