Sansaire Delta sous vide could change the way you cook forever

You might be saying to yourself: “wait a second, Techaeris isn’t a cooking blog.” And you’d be right. While we don’t necessarily cover cooking per se, we do cover science, technology, and entertainment. The Sansaire Delta manages to check all of those boxes in one way or another, and I’ll prove it to you. The Sansaire Delta is live on Kickstarter now, and it wants to help you add sous vide to your cooking repertoire.

First, a bit of a primer. Sous vide is a style of cooking where your food is submerged in a heated water bath. The water is circulated to gently heat your food, bringing it up to an exact, controllable temperature. Say you like your steak medium-rare. Simply set your immersion circulator (in this instance, your shiny new Sansaire Delta) to the appropriate temperature, place your steak into a sealed bag (with as much air removed as possible), place that bag into the water, and wait for your steak to be perfectly cooked. Sure, at the end you’ll want to sear the steak, but there’s really not much more to sous vide cooking than that. Cooking really is a science, so we’re covered on that front. We’ll get to the technology and entertainment aspects shortly.

You’ve always been able to buy an immersion circulator of your own, but many that you’ll find are meant more for professionals, and are priced accordingly. Sansaire — a combination of the French words “sans” (without) and “aire” (air) — has been working to make sous vide cooking available to a larger population. The company launched a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2013 for their first immersion circulator, and after a successful launch, have taken what they’ve learned and are back with the Sansaire Delta.

Sansaire Delta

With the Delta, Sansaire has redesigned the unit itself to be smaller, and packed it full of even more technology. The device itself features a touch interface to set the temperature, though you’ll have even more options available using the Sansaire companion app (available for iPhone and Android). Using the app you’ll be able to set your cook time and temperature, and then you really can just let the Delta do the rest. The circulator will monitor the water level and you’ll be notified if more water should be added. The companion app will keep track of the time remaining, and notify you when your food is ready. Maybe the best part: If you get distracted by something and can’t get to your food immediately when it’s finished, no problem… Since you are bringing the food up to the appropriate temperature and keeping it locked at that temperature it’s nearly impossible to overcook your food with sous vide. Sounds like technology is pretty well covered. All that’s left is entertainment.

Now, when it comes to the Kickstarter campaign, the Sansaire Delta is already off to a good start. They’re already nearly 3/4 funded with 29 days left. I don’t think they’re going to have any trouble hitting their goal, but you should still check it out soon if you want to get in on any of the early bird pricing. The lowest priced tiers are already sold out, but you can still get a Sansaire Delta for $129USD if you hurry. There are a few left at that price, and then the price gets bumped up to $149.

Entertainment… easy… invite some friends over and prepare an amazing meal for them with your Sansaire Delta. You can eat, talk, laugh, and that ought to keep you entertained! I’ll admit, that one was maybe a bit of a stretch, but that’s all three!
