Netflix releases trailer for short documentary The White Helmets

Entertainment / Movies

Netflix originals are pouring out of the company like water as they continue to grow into a entertainment and media powerhouse. Currently the company looks like it doesn’t have any plans on stopping either. Alongside other original series like Narcos, Longmire, Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones and Orange Is the New Black Netflix just dropped the trailer for a short documentary called The White Helmets.

A Netflix original short documentary, set in Aleppo, Syria and Turkey in early 2016. As the violence intensifies, The White Helmets follows three volunteer rescue workers as they put everything on the line to save civilians affected by the war, all the while wracked with worry about the safety of their own loved ones. Moving and inspiring, The White Helmets (by Oscar-nominated © team Orlando von Einsiedel and Joanna Natasegara) is both a snapshot of the harrowing realities of life for ordinary Syrians who remain in the country, and a humbling portrait of the power of the human spirit.

The film premiered this past weekend at the Telluride Film Festival and will have its international premiere at the 2016 TIFF. The White Helmets launches globally on Netflix on September 16, 2016.

It’s nice to see some variety of programming from Netflix and The White Helmets looks like it could appeal to a good swath of users. Netflix is already making deals for other original series like Narcos, which has season 3 and 4 already slated for production. Marvel and Netflix are also working well together pumping out not only Daredevil and Jessica Jones but also Marvel’s Luke Cage. Who would have thought that an online streaming service would end up being a major movie and TV producer?
