Samsung Canada has announced that Canadian owners of the troubled Note7 smartphone will be getting an OTA update starting today for the Note7 battery indicator icon. Samsung US started pushing out the update yesterday, and also indicated that 500,000 new Galaxy Note7 replacement devices have arrived in the U.S. and will be available at retail locations starting tomorrow. The software update will be pushed out to all Note7 devices sold between August 19th, 2016 and September 1st, 2016. The update will display a green battery icon on the “Always On” display, notification bar, and “Power Off” prompt screen to indicate the device has been battery checked and is safe to use.

If your device does not pass the test and has a battery cell issue, you will receive a message that will advise you to power down your Galaxy Note7 immediately and register to get your device exchanged.
