October is almost here so break out the pumpkin spice and sprinkle it all over your favorite shows! Maybe if you dress up and trick or treat your way through what’s hitting Netflix this month you’ll get a surprise or two! So let’s get on with it, shall we! Oh, if you’re in Canada we got ya covered too! Check out our New on Netflix Canada post for your October lineup!

Netflix Original Series

October Netflix Original Series is just a continuation of Netflix’s hard hitting run at making super original content. The company is pouring a lot of time and effort into Original Series shows and it is showing in quality and viewership! Let’s kick it off in the middle of October with Haters Back Off which will be available to watch October 14th is based on the character created by Colleen Ballinger-Evans, and delves into the oddball family life of Miranda Sings, an incredibly confident, totally untalented star on the rise who continues to fail upward by the power of her belief that she was born famous, it’s just no one knows it yet.

Backtracking a bit let’s move to October 7th when you’ll be able to binge watch The Ranch Season 1 Part 2. The Ranch reminds me of a country version of That 70’s Show, it really didn’t catch my interest but I know a lot of people who love it.

From here we’ll bounce around a bit with Black Mirror season 3 available to watch October 21st, Midnight Diner -Tokyo Stories- also on the 21st. Kuromukuro Season 2 will be ready for binging October 10th and in this season, the mystery deepens when a new antagonist appears who will stop at nothing to kill Ken. But she looks just like the princess he’s sworn to protect. Glitch Season 1 will drop October 15th, a police officer and a doctor face an emotionally charged mystery when six local residents inexplicably return from the dead in peak physical form. For you more dramatic folks The Fall Season 3 will hit Netflix October 29th while you more funny peeps can enjoy Trailer Park Boys: Out Of The Park: Europe October 28th and Chewing Gum Season 1 October 31st. That wraps up the Netflix Original Series coming in October.

Netflix Original Films

Kicking off the Netflix Original Films is none other than Justin Timberlake  + The Tennessee Kids which drops on October 12th. This Netflix Original Film showcases the entertainer’s final date of his 20/20 Experience World Tour at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Surrounded by the 25 band members of The Tennessee Kids and featuring show-stopping performances from one of the highest-grossing tours of the decade, the film is a culmination of the singer’s 134 shows and 2 years on the road.

One Original Film I know many are excited to see is The Siege of Jadotville which drops October 7th. This true story tells of a 150-member Irish U.N. battalion defending a Congolese mining town against an assault by 3,000 soldiers and mercenaries.

Rounding out the Netflix Original Films is Mascots dropping October 13th with I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House and 7 Años both dropping October 28th. 7 años is centered around four friends and business partners who in one evening are forced to find a way to save their company and themselves. The impossible decision they face is agreeing on who will be the one to sacrifice their freedom to save the others from personal and financial demise. It is a race against time that will put their friendship and sanity to the test. Who will take the fall?

There’s a nice mix of films here and there should be something for everyone to gnaw on.

Netflix Original Comedy Specials

The Netflix Original Comedy specials are sparse this month with Russell Peters: Almost Famous leading the way October 7th followed up with Joe Rogan: Triggered on October 21st. While these guys aren’t an Original Comedy special it is noteworthy that The Animaniacs are now streaming on Netflix, I always found them funny anyway.

Netflix Original Documentaries

Netflix Original Documentaries brings three entrants for October. Into The Inferno will hit your TV October 28th. 13th drops October 7th, Ava DuVernay’s extraordinary and galvanizing documentary refers to the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which reads “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States.” The progression from that second qualifying clause to the horrors of mass criminalization and the sprawling American prison industry is laid out by DuVernay with bracing lucidity. With a potent mixture of archival footage and testimony from a dazzling array of activists, politicians, historians, and formerly incarcerated women and men, DuVernay creates a work of grand historical synthesis.

The final entry into documentaries is Sky Ladder: The Art of Cai Guo-Qiang which can be seen October 14th. Told through the artist’s own words and those of family, friends, colleagues, and critics, Sky Ladder: The Art Of Cai Guo-Qiang traces Cai’s meteoric rise from childhood in Mao’s China to pre-eminent global artist. We witness as Cai struggles with how to affect social change through art, and navigate the compromises and complexities that arise when you’ve made it to the top. When you’ve gone as far as he has, how do you challenge yourself? His massive explosion events actively engage audiences around the globe—from his seminal 1993 work that extended the Great Wall of China with six miles of gunpowder fuse; to the daytime colored fireworks that ripped through the deserts of Doha, to the astonishing opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Netflix Original Series For Kids

Netflix hasn’t forgotten about your little tikes either! October is gonna be a blast starting off with Dinotrux Season 3 on October 7th. While not for small children Project Mc2 Season 3 should appeal to older kids and it drops October 14th. The Mr. Peabody and Sherman Show is always a favorite and will show up October 21st as will Word Party Season 2. Rounding out the kids shows is Skylanders Academy Season 1 dropping October 28th. The animated action-comedy Skylanders Academy is based on Activision Blizzard’s record-breaking video game franchise, the show follows the heroic adventures of Spyro, Eruptor, Stealth Elf, Jet-Vac and Pop Fizz as they travel the vast Skylands universe, protecting it from evil-doers.
