Former Siri creators sell their latest AI project, Viv, to Samsung

|

The creators of Siri sold that technology to Apple years ago and recently created a new AI assistant named Viv. Now that same team is selling again, but this time they’re selling Viv to Samsung. AI assistants have become a broader discussion when it comes to future technology. Amazon is all in with their Alexa system, Google Assistant has some new bells and whistles, and Cortana doesn’t do a horrible job. Some would consider Apple’s Siri to be at the back of the pack in terms of functional and useful software. Now Samsung wants to enter the dance floor and the acquisition of Viv is a real fast way to get there.

Samsung plans to implant Viv into phones, televisions and a wide range of other devices. The South Korean company did not disclose how much it paid for Viv, which is Latin for “life.”

“We see a future that is decidedly beyond apps, where you can get what you need quickly and easily no matter where you are, or what device you are near,” Kittlaus said.

AI seems like a direction these companies are investing in and even Google mentioned the importance of the technology when it comes to their ecosystem and plans. Artificial intelligence is envisioned to help run the future of IoT (Internet of Things), like running your smart home or smart car. Advancing the technology could certainly assist us in taking better advantage of many of the IoT devices being created. We’re probably some time away from all of our homes having a J.A.R.V.I.S. in them but that is certainly what many of these companies are thinking could happen in the near future.

What do you think of Samsung buying Viv? Do you think they can compete with Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Apple? Let us know your thoughts and comments below or on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+.
