Could Pink Floyd’s music be featured in the new Doctor Strange movie?

Alright, let’s just start by saying this post is nothing more than speculation on the part of a rabid Pink Floyd fanboy, which I admit I am. I have been a Pink Floyd fan for as long as I can remember, but I’ve also been a comic book fan for as long as I can remember. One of those comics and comic characters that I loved was Doctor Strange and it fills me with a giddiness to think of hearing some amazing spacey tunes mix in with a story like Doctor Strange. What brings me to this speculation you may ask? Well, Sir David Gilmour recently invited the good Doctor himself, Benedict Cumberbatch, on stage to sing a Pink Floyd classic.

Is this a preface to a possible Pink Floyd and Marvel collaboration? If Cumberbatch’s appearance to sing with David Gilmour isn’t enough speculative proof, perhaps this is. Doctor Strange made an appearance on the cover of 1968’s Saucerful of Secrets. Storm Thorgerson was Pink Floyd’s cover artist for as long as anyone could remember until his passing in 2013 and he talked about Doctor Strange’s appearance on the cover of that album.

Doctor Strange

“…The cover is an attempt to represent things that the band was interested in, collectively and individually, presented in a manner that was commensurate with the music. Swirly, blurred edges into red astrology/Doctor Strange images merging into images, a million miles away from certain pharmaceutical experiences. Beginning with Saucerful, they were beginning to experiment with more extended pieces and the music would cascade and change from thing into thing.”

If these two speculative pieces of evidence aren’t enough to convince my silly fanboy mind then let’s throw in a third just for the heck of it. Before The Wall, Pink Floyd created the soundtrack for a movie called More. In that soundtrack was a song called “Cymbaline” which mentions Doctor Strange towards the end of it.

The lines converging where you stand
They must have moved the picture plane
The leaves are heavy around your feet
You hear the thunder of the train
And suddenly it strikes you
That they’re moving into range
Doctor Strange is always changing size

I don’t know about you but my inner fanboy is screeching at the idea of this. This may amount to nothing and Floyd’s music may never see one second of the new Doctor Strange film but I think a lot of their tunes would fit splendidly well into the film. Roger Waters would probably also have to be on board depending on the songs chosen for the film. If the music doesn’t happen, I’ll at least be on the lookout for Saucerful of Secrets to be on film in physical form somewhere.

What do you think? Do you think Pink Floyd may be part of the new film in some way? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+.
