We all live in a LEGO submarine…

First things first. I did not come up with that title, I shamelessly stole it from our very own site owner, Alex Hernandez. The reason being (besides his bottomless well of creativity), I am waaaaay too excited about this and lack the focus to come up with a creative headline right now. Yes, I am a grown man and I’m giddily writing this as I impatiently wait for LEGO to release their newest set: The Beatles Yellow Submarine!

If you are not familiar with the incredible classic animated film that inspired this set, I just don’t get you. But I will help you. Released in 1968 and directed by George Dunning, Yellow Submarine  mostly takes place  in Pepperland, a colorful and psychedelic place of music, art, and love that gets invaded by a race of hateful and bitter Blue Meanies. If you have not seen it, I won’t spoil the plot, but suffice it to say, the Beatles (unfortunately NOT voiced by the four artists) step in and things get magnificently surreal. Take my word, it is a must see that is as stylish as it is emotional and as colorful as it is beautifully scored.

The Yellow Submarine set comes out the LEGO Ideas line, where fans get to submit designs and vote on them. When a design earns 10,000 votes, it goes up for review by LEGO and then has about 1 in 10 chance of actually getting made. Kevit Szeto submitted the concept in 2015 and after a review process it was announced back in June.

As an amateur musician and songwriter, I have always been drawn to the music of The Beatles. The creation of the Yellow Submarine model was really my way of showing my affection for The Beatles, as well as trying to pay a small tribute to The Beatles phenomenon. The Yellow Submarine is bright, fun, and colourful, which also made it a good subject to translate into LEGO form -Kevin Szeto

The set is made up of over 550 LEGO bricks and includes the 5 minifigures of John, Paul, George and Ringo, as well as the lovable Jeremy Hilary Boob, Ph.D.

The Beatles Yellow Submarine will be available in stores November 1st, 2016 for USD 59.99/EUR 59,99/GBP 49.99.
