Every year since 2008 (just about) we’ve gotten a new Marvel movie and each seems to be more exciting than the last, but the trailer they released today might be the most thrilling yet. The teaser for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has exploded all over the internet and has approx. 2.1 million views on Marvel’s YouTube channel already (and who knows how many more across the web).

While the rest of Marvel’s movies appeal mostly to fans who are more comic-book-knowledgeable than your average bear, Guardians has crossed boundaries and attracted those that might not otherwise be into superhero movies. This is largely due to the movie’s soundtrack.

The first volume of Guardians had hits from The Jackson 5, David Bowie, Marvin Gaye and of course Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling”. “Hooked” makes its way back and is the track running in the trailer. This is important because not only are the characters lovable but they also have a rockstar aura about them. Just take a look at the official poster that was released:

This feels like something you would get from a 1970’s/80’s punk band (e.g. The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones). The gray tones, the leather, the disinterested (almost scowling) expressions, I mean hell, Yondu has a mohawk! The only thing missing are ripped jeans and maybe some spikes.

Another point that made the first Guardians so successful was its humor. It had a charm, a quirkiness, a wit, and an overall attitude that set it apart from the rest of the MCU. When you have Chris Pratt, who played Andy on Parks and Recreation, and John C. Reilly, famous from his appearances in Talladega Nights and Step Brothers, there’s a certain goofiness that comes with the film. But it works. And what we see from the trailer, that brand of comedy will be a core part of the sequel.

Come to think of it, the release date for the film is May 5th, 2017. In other words, Cinco de Mayo. That can’t be a coincidence, can it? Either way, I’m curious to see what else Marvel Studios will pull out from their bag of tricks as this movie gets closer.

Are you excited for Vol. 2 of Guardians? What did you think of the trailer? What other MCU titles are you looking forward to? Let us know in the comments below, or on Google+, Twitter, or Facebook.
