Borderlands: The Handsome Collection free on Xbox One for Free Play Days

Gaming / Xbox

Xbox One owners were treated to a nice surprise late last night, as it appears that the digital version of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is currently free on the Xbox One. The bundle contains two games: Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. What’s uncertain at this time though is why it’s free, or if this is a limited time thing. The actual page indicates that the free version is Borderlands: The Handsome Collection Unlock Bundle, while the usual collection is titled without the “Unlock Bundle” words at the end and is showing up on the Microsoft Store as a separate bundle, on sale for $24USD ($28CAD).

According to this Reddit thread, some users have even had the bundle just showing up in their Ready to Install list, which indicates it might be is part of Xbox One’s occasional Free Play Days, but there is no indication from 2K, Xbox, Major Nelson, or any of the other usual sources just why the collection is currently free. Once we find anything more out, we’ll be sure to update this article. Major Nelson just posted that the game is part of the Multiplayer All-Access weekend, which allows all Xbox Live members to play online for free between October 27-30th. During that time, gamers will have access to Borderlands: The Handsome Collection now through October 30.
