This new OWC dock gives your MacBook Pro its ports back and then some

Apple wasn’t shy about stripping away nearly every legacy port on its newest MacBook Pro save the headphone jack, irony. The move created a ripple of displeasure throughout the tech community and beyond. Well, if you bought a MacBook Pro 2016 and are in need of your legacy ports back, this OWC dock just might be your answer. At first glance, the OWC dock is rather chunky and adds a bit of the old MacBook Pro look into the new. This new dock sits flush against the bottom of your MacBook Pro giving it a seamless look but adding some bulk to your slim machine.

The OWC DEC dock attaches directly beneath the MacBook Pro, giving your laptop a much thicker form factor (about the thickness of a 2012 MacBook Pro) and heavier (but 3 to 4 ounces lighter than the 2012 MacBook Pro). Like the MacBook Pro, the upcoming OWC dock will be milled from quality aluminum — to 1/1000th of an inch tolerance, the company says — giving it a matching look and feel.

While the added bulk is probably a turn off for some, when you hear what this dock comes with, you may change your mind. The dock not only comes with an Ethernet port, 3 USB3 Type-A ports, and an SD card slot, but it also features 4TB of extra storage.

There hasn’t been a price announcement yet, but we’re predicting this isn’t going to come cheap. With 4TB of extra storage (assuming SSD) and the machined aluminum construction, you’re most certainly going to pay a pretty penny. Still, it’s a good looking piece of hardware from what the renders show. The only two major downfalls I can see here are the added bulk and the sure to be massive price tag.
