We get a variety of things to review here at Techaeris, from smartphones and laptops to brewing machines and headphones. The CHEMION smart Bluetooth LED glasses are certainly one of the more fun reviews we’ve done. Read on for this short review of the CHEMION smart Bluetooth LED glasses.
Design
Straight out of the 80s, the CHEMION glasses are designed exactly as they should be, to attract attention. These aren’t meant to be a fashion statement or compete with Ray-Ban, they’re party glasses. Period. They’re made pretty much from all plastic and an array of LED lights. They are a bit bulky, and the slats in the front that allow you to see through them don’t provide the best view out. Your peripheral vision will be affected, but again, these are for parties not for just wearing to cross streets.
There is a power button on these and two AAA batteries go into the arms of the glasses.. There is also a rubber strap included that does help keep them on your head but isn’t intended to keep them from falling. Finally, there is an included pouch that does a good job of keeping them from getting scratched up, but it’s not going to stop a good drop from breaking them. Overall, the design is fun. It’s not stylish by any means, but it’s not intended to be.
Ease of Use
Download the CHEMION app to your iOS or Android device and turn on your glasses. Look for the pairing code in the app and you’re in! That’s just about all there is to pairing these guys. Once you have them paired you can control many features from the app or just use the power button to scroll through the presets on the glasses. The presets include hearts, waves, fireworks, GO!!! and a crazy triangle pattern.
When you dig deeper into the app you’ll find you can make custom text, use the EQ, create drawings (tricky to do) and explore other users’ presets. Text mode is probably the easiest, just type in the text you want to appear on the glasses and tap it when done. The text will automatically transfer over to the glasses from the app. The EQ feature uses the mic on your phone to listen to the noise around you and show an LED EQ on the glasses, this is great where you have music at a party. The creator mode has you drawing things across a grid of pixels which represent the LEDs, which is a bit harder to master but could be fun if you do.
Once you have something programmed in you do not have to have your phone on for it to work. Just program it and put your phone away. If you want to change things up, you will have to pull out the phone and enter new parameters. Overall, using the glasses isn’t hard at all, once you have them paired and you dig into the app for a bit, it all comes together quickly.
Performance
The CHEMION glasses performed as expected, easy to pair and the app is simple to use.
Battery Life
This is totally dependent on how much you use these and they use standard AAA batteries. I still have the original set I put in when I got them, but admittedly I haven’t used them for hours at a time.
Price/Value
The price tag is set at $69USD and value is going to depend on how much you use them and if they’re a hit at the party you go to.
Wrap Up
I can think of hundreds of other things you could blow $69USD on, sure the CHEMION glasses are probably not something you “need, ” but they are fun and if you have $69USD to blow then these are really a great little gadget.
