Based on the best-selling novel by Jay Asher, the Netflix Original Series 13 Reasons Why is coming to the service later this month. The streaming service has just released the official trailer for the series, which focuses on a young girl who committed suicide and has left a series of cassette tapes behind explaining why. While the show is based on a young adult novel, the trailer definitely has you wondering what happened, and what the big mystery behind Hannah’s suicide is.

13 Reasons Why follows teenager Clay Jensen (newcomer Dylan Minnette) as he returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker (newcomer Katherine Langford) —his classmate and crush—who tragically committed suicide two weeks earlier. On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Will Clay be one of them? If he listens, he’ll find out how he made the list. Through Hannah and Clay’s dual narratives, 13 Reasons Why weaves an intricate and heart wrenching story of teenage life that will deeply affect viewers.

13 Reasons Why is executive produced by Selena Gomez, with episodes directed by Academy Award winner Tom McCarthy (Spotlight).
