Design

The first thing you will notice about the Specter EFIX wireless magnetic earphones is the packaging. They come neatly bundled in a small black box. Once you open the box, you will find them ensconced in nicely flocked dense foam for their protection. This presentation is rather luxurious, and the EFIX certainly do look the part as they sit waiting for you to start enjoying them.

The Specter EFIX wireless magnetic earphones are tiny black squares that have the earpiece protruding from the side. The square housing is probably just a bit bigger than a Halls cough drop. They have a chrome accent around the face of the headphone and their name, EFIX, printed in white in the middle. They are very small and fit nicely into the ear. They protrude only slightly while in the ear, allowing them to be worn rather discreetly. There is also a small ear hook that goes into your ear to help stabilize the unit while it is worn.

Ease Of Use

EFIX wireless magnetic earphones. Wait, magnetic? Why are they magnetic? The earbuds have a magnet in each of the housings that have allowed Specter to incorporate a magnetic power switch into the EFIX. Start with the earbuds face to face and they will be stuck together due to the magnets. Pull them apart and the earbuds will tell you that they have powered on. To power them off, simply stick them back together, and they will announce that they have powered off. No more forgetting to turn off your headphones at the end of the day. I loved this feature and it was simple to use and very intuitive.

While worn, the wire that connects the two earbuds sits out of the way on the back of the neck. The control for the earphones sits on this wire. There is a volume up, volume down, multifunction button, and a charging port on the controller. The charging port has a rubber cover that fit nicely in place; it didn’t come loose until I needed to charge the EFIX.

Specter EFIX
Small stature but BIG sound.

Sound

The EFIX wireless magnetic earphones truly are minuscule. Yet the sound that comes out of them is most assuredly not. The sound is crisp, bass tones are booming and forceful, and vocals come through clear as day. The instruments are all very distinct, no muddied sounds as far as the ear could hear. The EFIX incorporate CSR’s cVc noise reduction technology to wonderful effect. The cVc technology is designed for voice communications, as we will see in the next section, but it is obviously very useful when listening to music as well. The noise reduction does an excellent job of cutting out most ambient sounds, leaving you enveloped in your own little world of amazing music. As I write this, my daughter is in the next room blasting EDM through a huge speaker. All I can hear are Tom Petty’s soothing vocals through my EFIX headphones. Yeah, Tom, I may not know how it feels to be you, but I know good sound when I hear it.

Reception/Call Quality

The EFIX wireless magnetic earphones have a claimed operating range of 33 feet. I was able to move the EFIX 52 feet away from the audio source before I started to lose reception. The call quality of the EFIX was very good. Voices on both ends of the calls were clear and the signal never once dropped. The clear voices are due, I’m sure, in part to the cVc noise reduction technology. cVc uses audio enhancement and noise reduction to deliver high quality calls on headsets, handsets and of course, headphones. This is very apparent and appreciated when making calls on the EFIX.

Battery Life

Music playback time on the EFIX wireless magnetic earphones is said to be 10 hours. With a full battery, volume at 50% and the music source no further than 2 feet away from the headphones, I was able to get 9 hours and 45 minutes out of the EFIX before it started to tell me that the battery was low. It repeated this to me several times over the next few minutes until the headphones finally shut themselves off. So battery life is pretty near to what Specter advertises and it will vary with how you use them, including volume and distance from the source.

Price/Value

The EFIX wireless magnetic earphones have a price of $95.95USD. There may be some buyers out there who feel this is a bit more than they would like to spend on such a small set of headphones. After all, the mantra of some buyers is “bigger is better.” Considering the sound and technology packed into these tiny little headphones, I feel they are certainly worth the price.

Wrap Up

The name of the game with the EFIX wireless magnetic earphones is tiny. Their size makes them great for anytime you want to listen to music without the bulk of conventional over or on the ear headphones. The EFIX may be small in stature, but the sound is HUGE! They have great bass that you can feel; yet it doesn’t overpower the music, instead treating you to a nicely balanced sound. The noise cancellation helps immensely by blocking unwanted, ambient sounds, and voice calls are surprisingly clear. All in all, I would say the EFIX would be a great choice if you’re looking for tiny headphones with uncompromising sound, and that’s why we’ve made them a Top Pick of 2017 here at Techaeris.
