[RUMOR] Apple supplier confirms waterproof iPhone with wireless charging

Sites like Nikkei Asian Review have had a decent track record on some speculation, but not all of what they’ve reported comes to be.

Here comes another rumor from an Apple supplier confirming waterproofing and wireless charging on at least one new iPhone. The Apple supplier (or assembler) Wistron says at least one iPhone model will have these new capabilities. The story is being reported in the Nikkei Asian Review which is known to have a healthy amount of iPhone leaks and rumors.

“Assembly process for the previous generations of [iPhones] have not changed much, though new features like waterproof and wireless charging now require some different testing, and waterproof function will alter the assembly process a bit,” [Robert] Hwang, [Wistron CEO], told reporters after the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting on Wednesday.

The consensus seems to be that there will be at least three iPhones this year. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, which will look very similar to the models we know today and the iPhone X. Of course, we still don’t know the naming scheme and are just speculating on that. The other thing some people agree on is, the waterproofing and wireless charging are probably going to be exclusive to the iPhone X. Since the iPhone X is the phone that is supposed to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, it has to be something special.

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will probably still be water-resistant but the iPhone X may take it up a few notches. Still, this is all rumor and speculation. In the past, we’ve heard that the iPhone would get wireless charging and waterproofing and those rumors never panned out. Well, that is until the iPhone 7 came out with water-resistance. While sites like Nikkei Asian Review have had a decent track record on some speculation, not all of what they’ve reported comes to be. So it is important to treat all of these reports as speculation only. Still, it would be nice to see wireless charging finally come to the iPhone, something Android users have enjoyed for years.
