If you grew up in the 80s, there’s no doubt you remember those Choose Your Own Adventure books which let you guide the story based on choices every few pages. A similar experience has come to various games, including Telltale’s The Walking DeadGuardians of the Galaxy, and other series. Games like The Bunker and Late Shift are merging live action with the choice experience, and now Netflix is releasing three new titles with an Interactive Storytelling feature as well.

Building on popular kid’s titles already on the streaming service, Interactive Storytelling lets kids use their TV remotes or tap their touchscreens to guide the story and help characters they’re familiar with decide what to do.

The intertwining of our engineers in Silicon Valley and the creative minds in Hollywood has opened up this new world of storytelling possibilities on Netflix.

Content creators have a desire to tell non-linear stories like these, and Netflix provides the freedom to roam, try new things and do their best work. Being an internet-based company enables us to innovate new formats, deliver at scale to millions of members all over the world on multiple device types and, most importantly, learn from it.

The Interactive Storytelling functionality will be available starting with Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale, which will be globally available on iOS and TV devices today, and followed by Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile in July and Stretch Armstrong: The Breakout in 2018. Unfortunately, the Netflix website, Android Devices, Chromecast, and Apple TV do not support interactive content at this time.
