Alright, here we go again. Twitter leaker @OnLeaks (Steve Hemmerstoffer) has posted what could be the final design of the iPhone 8. It pretty much looks like the design we’ve seen over the past few months but many are saying this is essentially it. Of course, we can’t confirm if this is the final design but @OnLeaks has a pretty decent track record of being correct. So while we know the source is legit, it should be taken with the proverbial grain of salt.
The first thing that literally sticks out to me is that camera hump and orientation. When I first saw this concept I wasn’t too thrilled about it and frankly, I’m still not thrilled. It’s not the orientation that bothers me so much as it’s the hump it creates. Supposedly, the orientation is supposed to be more effective when using augmented reality (AR) apps. Also shown in these leaks is that 18.5:9 aspect ratio which Samsung used on their latest Galaxy S8.
The bezel around the entire phone seems to be extremely thin and sort of melts into the sides. It’s not unlike the LG G6 display and I think it will look really nice in person. The rear of the phone looks to be glass and it’s rumored wireless charging will be onboard. The inclusion of wireless charging is a huge plus and Apple is very late to the party, but better late than never. One thing I do wish Apple would get on board with is fast/rapid charging. That’s likely not going to happen unless they can upgrade their Lightning connector. What they should do is ditch that Lightning connector for USB Type-C but that’s likely not happening anytime soon.
