Runescape is heading to a mobile device near you

Runescape… a game I have not played since 2008 and joined back in 2005. A game where I would go out and build weapons and fish and fight people in the area where once you die, you drop all the loot you have and start over. A game where I paid for a subscription and didn’t really get much out of it. This game was enjoyable to play for hours with my friends and now, it’s finally heading to a mobile phone after so many years.

Runescape’s developer Jagex shouted out on their landing page that the MMORPG will be joining the ranks of mobile devices letting players go out and about and play the game doing whatever goal they need to reach next. Jagex says the game has been optimized for smartphones and can work cross platform letting you play with friends even if they’re on the browser version.

Old School Mobile will be releasing this winter (old version of the game) while Runescape Mobile won’t be out until sometime in 2018. If you can’t wait, then you have a chance to become a closed beta tester by registering and keep up with all the good news of the game. It doesn’t specify which mobile platforms will be supported or which will be first to get it, but there’s only two to really choose from. Android or iOS. Jagex Chief Operating Officer, Phil Mansell sent a quote to BGR about the game and told them this and seems pretty happy about where this is heading.

HOW TO: Change system date in OS X from Terminal

This is a real step change for MMORPGs and a signal of Jagex’s intent to continue to push the boundaries of live games. The RuneScape titles will become the first mainstream and established Western MMORPGs on mobile in full, and the first to deliver interoperable play between PC and mobile platforms. We believe in taking our games to wherever our players want them; recent player surveys showed an overwhelming 90 percent of active players and 64 percent of former players telling us of their very high intent-to- play on mobile.

It’s cool to see a game I grew up on hit mobile (not counting Pokémon or Mario), but it’s not enough to make me go back to playing it considering I don’t remember any of my logins… anywho, what do you guys think about Runescape going cross platform?
