Blumhouse Productions takes the leap on the next Spawn movie

Well, ladies and gentlemen! It is official: Todd McFarlane will be working on a new Spawn movie thanks to Blumhouse Productions. Blumhouse Productions is well known for making low-budget and mid-budget horror type movies none of which I’ve personally seen. That’s neither here nor there though. What I can say with full confidence here is: Blumhouse Productions has bigger balls than any Hollywood studio to take on the Spawn project and that is a good thing!

Todd McFarlane himself made the announcement on his Facebook page flanked by the great Kevin Smith. Check out what McFarlane had to say about the project, he certainly sounds enthused and excited and I don’t blame him.

McFarlane has been pretty insistent that he be the director for this movie, that’s partially why it’s taken awhile to get it going. Many major Hollywood studios are less likely to take a chance on a first-time director, even if that director is the creator of the character. We’ve been shouting for this for years and it’s been a long time coming. Jason Blum is the owner of Blumhouse Productions and he had this to say about the new Spawn movie.

“Having worked with many visionary directors, I think Todd’s unique artistic talents will only add to his role as director of this film.”

Most of us remember the first run at this character in a film and it wasn’t the greatest. The original movie still lives on as sort of a cult classic but it’s not aged well and you can see the heart of the character wasn’t truly in that movie. McFarlane is promising updates as the production progresses so we’ll try and keep you abreast of what’s happening in the future.
