Virtual reality gaming is coming folks. This is not going to be some passing trend that will fade off into the night. Sony and Microsoft have both played in the 3D gaming world but VR is a whole different beast. The immersion of the user into the game itself is what I think will set VR gaming apart from simple 3D gaming. Oculus Rift is finding success with their platform and they are just starting. Now Steam (a Valve Corp company) is working on VR hardware for their Steam gaming platform. Steam is a popular computer based gaming software that continues to grow and expand to new users. Expect Steam to unveil something involving VR and Steam software in January at their Developer Days conference.

We’ve figured out what affordable Virtual Reality (VR) hardware will be capable of within a couple of years, and assembled a prototype which demonstrates that such VR hardware is capable of stunning experiences. This type of hardware is almost certainly going to appear in short order, and the time to starting developing for it is now. This talk will discuss what the hardware is like, and the kinds of experiences it makes possible. A few attendees will be randomly selected to try out the prototype following the talk.
