Mimicking Twitter, Facebook announced today a new feature that will slowly roll out to users of “select countries” called Trending. It’s Facebook’s latest answer to Twitter’s popular Trends feature, and will work similarly. There is a twist, however – Facebook’s engineering manager, Chris Struhar, had the following to say:
“The list is personalized, including topics based on things you’re interested in and what is trending across Facebook overall. Each topic is accompanied by a headline that briefly explains why it is trending.”
It’s no secret that Facebook is always looking for new ways to help its millions of users connect with each other. No doubt this will help them achieve that goal by allowing people with similar interests in topics and events to have lively discussions and personal interactions with both friends and strangers alike.
The new feature is currently still in the testing phase for mobile devices. Expect to see Trending rolling out to your browser soon!
