Xbox One Digital Pre-orders Coming Soon?

If Brandon Winfrey’s recent Sunset TV episode is to believed, Xbox One digital pre-orders are coming soon. This is great news for Xbox One fans as Sony recently unveiled their digital pre-order system.

Sunset Overdrive is an upcoming Xbox One exclusive open world third-person action game being developed by Insomniac Games set to feature an 8-player multiplayer cooperative mode. When asked via email “Will I be able to get the Day One Edition content if I download it from the Xbox Marketplace?”, Winfrey responded in the latest episode of Sunset TV by saying:

“Yes, if you pre-order the game digitally, you will get the Day One Edition content. You can’t pre-order it digitally yet but soon you will be able to.”

This is great news as many Xbox One gamers have been waiting patiently – myself included – for Xbox to finally allow digital pre-orders. It’s also nice to see that Insomniac Games will be providing the same pre-order content as the physical pre-orders which includes the “Nothin’ but the Hits” gun, “It’s Me! Fizzie!” outfit, and “Hardcore! Hammer” melee weapon. Winfrey went on to say that there would be a “little nifty-gifty exclusive for digital buyers as well”.

Microsoft really focused on the digital copy aspect of gaming when they spoke about their since reversed family sharing functionality when the Xbox One was first officially announced back at E3 2013, but hasn’t been living up to their commitment to gamers who want to go digital this generation all that well. When the Xbox One launched with Day One versions of Forza Motorsport 5Ryse: Son of Rome, and Dead Rising 3, those who purchased the Day One editions were denied the Day One edition content that came with physical copies. Some gamers were successful in receiving codes for the content from Xbox Customer Support but it really depended on which representative you spoke to. Xbox One games have been available digitally the day they launch in stores, however without the option of pre-ordering, those wishing to go digital have often done so without receiving any of the extra pre-order content available to others.

It’s about time Xbox addressed this issue and will hopefully officially announce more details regarding digital pre-order availability for all games.

Watch the episode below and find out what else is coming to Sunset Overdrive October 28 (in North America, October 31 in Europe).
