Quick Review: Kinivo BTC455 Bluetooth Car Kit

Before most cars incorporated Bluetooth into their systems the only means to route your iPod or smartphone music through your car stereo was the AUX port. I have a 2010 Honda Fit Sport with an AUX port and a USB port. The USB port is nice if you want to listen to your iTunes library.  It automatically starts your tunes in your iTunes library and the USB port also powers the phone. But therein lies the problem. I don’t use my iTunes app to listen to music, I use Google Play Music or Spotify. While I can stop the music and switch over to Google Play or Spotify, I find it quite annoying to have to do that every time I plug into the USB. Enter Kinivo’s BTC455 Bluetooth Car Kit.

The BTC455 has a power adapter with USB port that plugs right into the power port or cigarette lighter of your car and an AUX cable that routes to your AUX port. Setup is super easy: plug in power, plug in AUX and pair your device. Instructions on the back of the box are clear, concise and easy enough that a twelve year old could do this in minutes. Here’s a rundown of the features of this handy little Bluetooth device.

  • Connect multiple devices at once via Bluetooth to your car stereo with the next generation of the popular BTC450 series Bluetooth 4.0 car kit with advanced multi-point A2DP paring.
  • Hands-Free car kit designed for answering and receiving calls with any Bluetooth smartphone – iPhone, Android, Blackberry etc
  • Seamlessly stream music from any Bluetooth (A2DP) capable device; supports aptX for CD quality audio. Built-in microphone and easy to use music controls
  • Provides audio through the 3.5mm AUX input from your Car Stereo when playing music and answering phone calls (Requires 3.5mm audio input in the car stereo)
  • The 48 inch auxiliary cable and 24 inch extension cable give you good reach to allow for convenient placement of the device

This is easily one of the best in car peripherals I have ever used for a smartphone. I literally use this everyday to listen to music, take phone calls and power my devices. The Multi-Point pairing is a great feature allowing two devices to be used at the same time.  This comes in handy when my wife is in the car with me. Another super handy feature is the track forward and reverse on the device itself. It works flawlessly with Google Play Music and Spotify on my iPhone 5s. No need to look at the phone to skip tracks, just press the button on the BTC455. While having Bluetooth on your phone is certainly a battery drainer, the BTC 455 has that covered by incorporating charging into it’s power source. It charged the iPhone 5s just great as well as the Galaxy Note 3.

I give the BTC455 4.5 stars out of 5, it’s a real handy and useful device if you want bluetooth in your car and multi-point connectivity. The sound quality is very good as the BTC455 is using aptX technology to produce its Bluetooth sound. I have had zero issues with the sound quality and call quality. All of my phone calls play clearly over the stereo and the built in mic also picks up my voice clearly and delivers it to the other party perfectly. The Kinivo BTC455 is well worth your time if you’re willing to spend $45USD. Pick yours up on Amazon at the link below.
